Runners World Magazine 60-Second Gear Guide

May 28th, 2010

A great write up of the SafetyWrap in the July 2010  issue of Runners World magazine. As part of the 60-Second Gear Guide as follows:

In a nutshell – Reusable post-race poncho.

Keep your body heat from escaping post-race with this foil wrap. Unlike the space blankets  handed out at many events, this design is shaped loosely like a jacket, with a hood and arm holes so it won’t slide off. It’s lightweight, packs down small and comes in gold or silver options.

Virgin London Marathon – 25 April 2010

April 28th, 2010

Blue Start

PA Training Solutions Ltd supplied Runners World Magazine with SafetyWraps, to form part of the RW rucksack content, which were available at this year’s London Marathon Expo. It was exciting to see so many  SafetyWraps being used at the Blue start. The weather was not good around 9am. It turned cold and very wet for about 20 minutes, so those runners who had taken their SafetyWraps with them were adequately protected from the conditions.

Did anyone see any at the other starts?

Sleepmonsters Gear Review

April 7th, 2010

The Safety Wrap is another excellent example of the foil emergency blanket taken one logical step forward. Where the foil blanket is unwieldy and inefficient, the safety wrap is compact, easy to use, and effective.

Supplied in the simplest of plastic packages and weighing barely 40grams (35grams unpacked) the Safety Wrap smock design makes it easy to put on, one size fits all, covering the head and torso completely. While designed to be worn as an outer garment for the test it was worn ‘layered’. The Safety Wrap works fundamentally by seriously reducing the rate at which body heat is lost to the environment, and is designed for post event/racing to reduce the effects of rapid body cooling – our test was a little more extreme.

The wrap is a great example of a simple idea that simply works – it keeps you warm. It’s a modest enough claim for a garment that weighs only 35grams and while its not exactly comfortable, being very ‘loud’ when worn (I think I previously likened wearing a foil jacket to like ‘being inside a crisp packet’, for the noise it makes), you’re still able to continue to be active while wearing it and you immediately noticed the effect of having it on. With a bit of care I think the wrap would survive more than the single use it’s intended for, but it is being priced as a throw-away item.

A useful and sensible addition to your day-pack equipment list or car-boot emergency kit.

Shell Cambridge Motorway Services

April 6th, 2010

The SafetyWrap is an essential addition to any vehicle’s emergency kit. In addition to it’s heat retentive qualities, it will also protect the wearer from the wind and rain. Another great benefit is the high degree of visibility and reflectiveness offered by the SafetyWrap. We are informed that in the case of having to stop on the hard shoulder of the motorway, for whatever reason, you should get out of the car. It is quite often very cold and windy along motorway sections, due to the exposed nature of the landscape around motorways. The SafetyWrap is an ideal short term solution for this situation.

Every car should have one SafetyWrap per passenger in the boot or glove box, in case of emergency.

The SafetyWrap is now on sale at  A14 Boxworth Shell Cambridge Services.
