We all (as runners) love a freebie, especially something useful. In my experience, the problem with a lot of runs is that whilst there is water, sometimes squash, or a banana, even occasionally cake, etc, few outside the ‘big’ runs consider the comfort and wellbeing of the runner.
The London Marathon and other large sponsor events, may provide a foil emergency blanket, which at least shows a level of understanding about the care of the runner, post run.
If you have pushed yourself to your limits, over whatever distance and at whatever pace, you are likely to suffer the effects of rapid heat loss when you stop running. The SafetyWrap specifically deals with this issue, by covering the whole torso and head, where required, whilst allowing the wearer to eat and drink while keeping warm. These are the main post race requirements for a runner.
If your event offered the SafetyWrap at the end, what better way to show that duty of care?
Furthermore, if a runner feels he has been well looked after, how much more likely are they to return again the next year? Additionally, how much more are they likely to recommend your event to their friends and fellow runners?
It is true, that the purchase of SafetyWraps, as a new innovation, will be an additional cost to the organiser and could therefore be a drain on the event profits, however, the cost is mnimal, per person and could be easily absorbed by a small increase in the entry fee, or by the sponsorship route. Many may well feel the cost is a worthwhile expense, in any case.
Many local businesses are prepared to support a local event to some degree, especially in return for a little local publicity via the Race Pack, programme, banner display, etc and for many events, this outlay is affordable to such businesses. It might be you can recover the cost through one sponsor or a group of sponsors. Given enough preparation time, it might also be possible to have the SafetyWrap printed with the sponsor or sponsors’ logo, for a small additional charge.
